During the official trip to Hanoi from 9 to 15 Sep 2017, Prof. Kim Oanh led the kick-off activities of PEER-USAID sub-award project on “Technology Acceleration of Rice Straw Derived Fuel Showcase in Vietnam” in cooperation with the research group of Prof. Hoang Xuan Co at Hanoi University of Science.
- On 11 Sep, Prof. Kim Oanh had a meeting with Prof. Co and his research group to discuss about the preparation of the “kick-off stakeholders’ workshop” on 12 Sep, field visit and planned project activities in Vietnam.
- On 12 Sep, Prof. Kim Oanh and Prof. Co organized a stakeholders’ workshop “Alternative non-burning options for rice straw management in Vietnam” at Hanoi University of Science. The workshop attracted the participation of local experts and other stakeholders from state and private sectors including Pollution Control Department of Vietnam, Center for Environmental Monitoring (MONRE), Urban Rural Solution Company, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi etc. All participants expressed their interest in the potential of turning rice straw into cooking fuels in Vietnam. They contributed valuable recommendations and suggestions for the project operation. In addition, possible follow-up toward a workable business model and further collaboration in spin off projects in Vietnam was also discussed.
- On 13 Sep, Prof. Kim Oanh had a field visit to the Hoai Duc rice planation area in Hanoi outskirt.
- On 14 Sep, Prof. Kim Oanh had a wrap up meeting with Prof. Co’s group for the follow-up of project activities.
