First Regional Capacity Building Workshop on Technology Needs Assessment Phase III for Asia and Pacific

The Global Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project is aimed at assisting developing countries determine their technology priorities regarding mitigation and adaptation to climate change. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and is in its third phase. TNA implemented by UN Environment’s Division of Economy and UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP), Denmark.

For the implementation of the project, the UNEP DTU Partnership works with regional centers in Latin America & Caribbean, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia to support countries during the Technology Needs Assessment process and to create a greater awareness about the technology needs of the countries at the regional level. The regional centers, in close collaboration with the UNEP DTU Partnership, are instrumental in providing technical support to the national Technology Needs Assessment teams. AIT is tapped as the Regional Center for Asia and has been involved with TNA since its inception.

As part of the project’s activities, a series of capacity building workshops will be conducted to provide training in the process and methodologies for undertaking Technology Needs Assessments in the countries. These trainings will be provided by the UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) in collaboration with AIT and the University of South Pacific, Fiji.

The first workshop was organized by AIT from 28 February – 2 March 2019 at the Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand and participated by ministry representatives from the Cook Islands, Myanmar, Nauru, Fiji and Vanuatu. Speakers from UN, CTCN and UNFCCC provided support during the training sessions.
