Urban Water Engineering and Management Program addresses the need for master-level professionals capable of delivering water and wastewater, and sustainable development services covering both technical and management aspects. This enormous growth of urban areas poses several challenges, such as the delivery of essential water and sanitation services and the management of the urban water cycle. These challenges are further complicated due to climate change, and it is foreseen that coping with them requires a substantial increase of highly trained and qualified human resources.
The program curriculum is derived from a partnership with UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands offering students with an accelerated dual degree with international exposure to diversified areas of excellence.

The Urban Water Engineering and Management Program is a strategic curriculum which offers a fast-track and economical way for students to complete two degrees from AIT and partner university UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands in just two years.
The UWEM program is one of the few programs worldwide that addresses the need for master level professionals capable of delivering both water and wastewater services within the context of the urban water cycle, covering both technical and management aspects. As such, it is attractive to professionals from both the government sectors and the water industry, particularly from developing and transitional countries. The program is designed for addressing local and global challenges and shortages facing the persistent water and wastewater problems.
Students who successfully complete the courses and research requirements will be awarded two Master degree in Urban Water Engineering and Management. The degrees will be awarded by both AIT and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands.
This specialization is intended for professionals from urban water and wastewater authorities, urban development ministries, sustainable development ministries, water and environment ministries, private companies, academia, NGOs, city and municipal authorities dealing with or interested in water and sanitation services and managing urban water cycle, environmental policy planning and management, and sustainable development.
Candidates with a degree from an institute of recognized standing preferably in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering or related fields are eligible to apply.
