A paper on “PSO based Economic Dispatch of a Hybrid Microgrid system”
was presented at the EPSCICON 2018, the 4th International Conference on Power Signals, Control & Computations at the Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, Thrissur, Kerala, India from 6th – 10th January 2018. Prof. Weerakorn Ongsakul and Dr. J. G. Singh co-authored the paper with Ms. Raja Nivedha R, a PhD student.
Abstract
Microgrid is becoming very popular by addition of renewable generation for producing and supplying adequate power in remote areas. The focus is to design cost-effective hybrid microgrid system with renewable source such as wind combined hydrogen based storage system. The proposed system uses wind turbine for producing power which will meet out the demand. An electrolyser absorbs the excess power from the wind turbine. If there is excess hydrogen from electrolyser, the hydrogen tank stores the excess hydrogen. When power demand is not met by wind, power to the grid is supplied by fuel cell. Diesel generators(DG) are used to support the system when the demand is not met by fuel cell. Assumed that, wind turbine power is free of cost. When rated power is below the actual power, the DG picks up to provide power support to the system.
