Emissions of Air Pollutants and Greenhouse Gases in Nepal: An Integrated Inventory
A new book by Emeritus Professor Ram Manohar Shrestha on “Emissions of Air Pollutants and Greenhouse Gases in Nepal: An Integrated Inventory” has been published by Regional Energy Resources Information Center (RERIC), Asian Institute of Technology. Most developing countries are facing the problem of rapidly increasing air pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, most developing countries lack systematic and comprehensive assessments of the emissions of air pollutants and GHGs. This study has carried out detailed estimation of emissions of air pollutants and GHGs (including both short and long-lived climate forcers) in Nepal. It presents an integrated inventory of the emissions of energy combustion in different sectors, open burning activities, industrial processes, solid waste management and other sources, and discusses their implications for policymaking on air pollution control and GHG mitigation in Nepal.
The integrated emission inventory in this book should of significant interest to policy makers, researchers and other stakeholders engaged in environmental management and GHG mitigation in Nepal; it could also be of interest to researchers and organizations involved in the presentation of emission inventories in other developing countries.
Osamu Mizuno, the Director of Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific says “To my understanding, the present work represents the most extensive compilation of data on emission related activities in Nepal; it also represents the most comprehensive emission inventory of air pollutants and GHGs in the country”.
