Seminar on Prosumption in the Era of Rapidly Dwindling Resources

Seminar conducted at the School of Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Technology (SGtech)

Dr. Brahmanand Mohanty was invited by the School of Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Technology (SGtech) at Naresuan University to conduct a seminar on “Prosumption in the Era of Rapidly Dwindling Resources” for the faculty, students and researchers on Monday, 12 November 2018.

The seminar started with an overall view of how the consumption pattern is growing exponentially in a finite world, depleting the resources faster than the capacity of the Nature to replenish them. It then proceeded to discuss about the present initiatives to reverse the trend, such as Circular Economy and Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP). Following the principles of “Think Global Act Local”, the presentation narrowed down on what concrete measures can be undertaken at the individual and community level to produce what one consumes, thus becoming a “Prosumer”. Concrete examples were shared to illustrate the point that the “whole system designing” helps to optimize both the demand- and supply-side measures cost-effectively, and achieve a higher prosumption rate. Accordingly, government policies should evolve to reward prosumers instead of adopting fragmented approach to separately reward demand-side and supply-side measures.

The seminar was covered live on Facebook
