Keeping the importance of practical learning to complement theoretical lessons, the Environmental Engineering and Management Program
annually arrange field trips to various industry sites and facilities across Thailand. This year the EEM students visited
- Solid Waste Collection System, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Samutprakarn Province
Waste management at Suvarnabhumi airport is conducted by Alternative Green Solutions Company (TARF). The company is certified with ISO 14000 and ISO 9000. Currently, they handle 55 T/d of waste generated from the Suvarnabhumi airport. This plant segregate the waste and send it to the different treatment facility at different locations across Bangkok.
- Wastewater Treatment Plant, Amata City Industrial Estate, Chonburi Province
The Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate is one of the largest industrial estates in Thailand. Currently, there are 400 plus factories in operation related to Automotive, Electronics & related products, Chemicals, Plastics, Paper, Steel and metal, Food Products, etc. Wastewater generated from the factories are collected and sent to the centralized wastewater treatment plant. The treated water sends to the water reclamation plant where RevoplusTM, ultrafiltration (UF) and Reverse osmosis (RO) operations taking place. The plant has a capacity to produce 10,000 m3/day of reclaimed water and supply back to the system. As the water resource is in short supply, the Wastewater reclamation is a viable option in many situations. In an industrial development, it makes economic sense to reclaim the wastewater and helps to protect the environment.
- Mangrove Forest planting activity in Rayong Province
The EEM program organizes an annual trip to Rayong province for conducting a mangrove forest planting activity. Mangrove restoration plays in slowing climate change, by capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The students and staff planted 350 mangrove plants (Rhizophora mucronata) near Prasia Sin Bridge Rayong.
Through field trips our students get an opportunity to relate the classroom learning to the real world situations; how to involve practically, helping to overcome global warming as an environmentalist with the motto of “do what you can”.
